Sohar International Bank was established in Oman on March 4, 2007, and was listed on the Muscat Securities Market on November 28, 2006. With a paid-up capital of 572,508,187 Omani Rials, the bank offered a comprehensive range of banking services, including Islamic banking, personal finance, mortgages, and investment management.
The bank had an extensive network of branches and ATMs across Oman, and it also provided online and mobile banking services. However, in a surprising move on June 21, 2023, the bank announced a proposed merger with itself.
Under Oman's Commercial Companies Law, specifically Articles 33 and 35, the bank proposed to merge with its own entity, with Sohar International Bank being the surviving entity post-merger. This decision was outlined in a memorandum attached to the announcement and the meeting's agenda.
