Ahmad Al-Sharaa's Bio
Supreme Commander of the New Syrian Administration.
Known previously as "Abu Muhammad al-Julani".
He began his military career as a fighter in Al-Qaeda in Iraq, during which time he was imprisoned by the United States in Iraq. After his release, he traveled to Syria to establish Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of Al-Qaeda, and led its operations until it publicly split from Al-Qaeda in 2016 due to ideological differences and opposition to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS). Al-Sharaa then formed what is known as Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in early 2017.
On November 27, 2024, Shara announced the start of the military operation "Deterrence of Aggression", which led to the end of Bashar al-Assad's rule on December 8, 2024.
On December 20, 2024, the US Department of State announced the cancellation of the $10 million reward for information leading to the identification of Ahmed al-Sharaa, which it had announced in 2017 under the Rewards for Justice program.
