He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mohammed bin Rashid Arabic Language Award and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Literature Foundation .
He served as President of the Federal National Council between 2011 and 2015, President of the Dubai Cultural Council between 2004 and 2008, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Culture and Science Symposium between 1987 and 2001. He was also editor-in-chief of the English Al-Bayan newspaper and the Khaleej Times.
He is a graduate of political science from Syracuse University in New York, USA.
