Syrian lawyer and human rights activist.

He is the head of the Syrian Center for Legal Studies and Research and a former political prisoner.

He won a number of awards, including:

• The Franco-German Human Rights Award for his activism for human rights and the rule of law in 2018.
• "Human Rights Award of the German Association of Judges" 2009.
• "Front Line Award for Human Rights Defenders at Risk" by the German Association of Judges in 2008.

He has been closely involved in the cases of political detainees since he began his legal career. He participated in the defense of detainees from the Committees for the Defense of Democratic Freedoms and Human Rights in Syria during the 1990s. He was also one of the founders of the Human Rights Association in Syria in July 2001, and was elected to its board of directors in 2003.

He graduated in 1986 from the Faculty of Law at Damascus University .
