Nama Power & Water Procurement Company was established in 2004. It was formerly known as the Omani Power and Water Procurement Company, and it is one of the companies of the Nama Group. It is the sole purchaser of energy and water from all independent power generation and water supply companies, and is responsible for providing sufficient production capacity of electricity and desalinated water at the lowest possible cost to meet the growing demand for them in Oman.
The company's duties and responsibilities include: providing production capacity and output to cover all reasonable demands for electricity in the Sultanate in coordination with the Rural Areas Electricity Company, providing the production of desalinated water in accordance with the maximum that is consistent with the economic purchase of the production capacity and output of desalinated water and electricity, supplying the Public Authority for Electricity and Water with desalinated water wholesale in accordance with agreements, importing or exporting electrical energy, and covering the need for new capacity by establishing new stations.
