Dima Nachawi's Bio
Dima Nachawi is a visual artist, clown, and storyteller based in Lebanon. Through her art, she seeks to embody her own dream—and that of many others—of a world that upholds rights and provides equal opportunities for all.
Women’s stories and their acts of heroism in the face of patriarchy and male dominance are central to her artistic practice. She also advocates for the freedom of prisoners of conscience, a cause she considers a top priority, and one that is reflected in many of the projects she has produced.
Her journey with shadow puppetry began with a mobile puppet and storytelling performance for children, which toured across Lebanon in 2021. Today, she continues this exploration through a new project for adult audiences that combines visual installation and immersive sound.
In 2018, Dima was selected as one of the BBC 100 Women, a list highlighting some of the world’s most inspiring and influential women.
Her works have been exhibited in the Political Exhibition at Al Madina Theatre in Beirut, as well as in exhibitions in Brussels, Paris, and London.
She holds a Master’s degree in Art and Cultural Management from King’s College London, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Damascus University.
