President of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology ( KAUST ) effective September 1, 2024, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Royal Colleges of Physicians of London and Edinburgh, the American Academy of Neurology, the American Neurological Society, the Australian Academy of Sciences and Engineering Technology, and an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.

He served as Head of Global Medical Services at Ramsay Healthcare Group from 2021 to 2024. He also held several positions at University College London in the United Kingdom, including: President of the University from 2014 to 2021, Executive Dean of the School of Biomedical Sciences, Head of the School of Medicine, and Vice-Provost.

He held several positions at Monash University in Australia, including: President of the University, Vice-Chancellor from 2009 to 2014, and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences.

He has received numerous honorary awards and distinctions, including the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2006, the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in 2016, and the Knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 2020.

He holds a Doctor of Science degree from the University of Melbourne, a Diploma in Clinical Sciences from the University of Adelaide, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Queensland, Australia, a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1982, a Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1974 from the University of Tasmania, and a Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree in 1971.
