He became the ruler of Dubai on January 4, 2006 after the death of his brother Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum on the same day. On January 5, 2006, members of the Supreme Council elected him as Vice President of the State, and approved the proposal of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to assign him to head the Council of Ministers and form a new government. He has also held the position of Minister of Defense since 1971.

He served as Chairman of the Government Investment Corporation of Dubai , and Crown Prince of Dubai between 1995 and 2006, and founded many charitable, health and educational institutions, including: “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable and Humanitarian Establishment”, “Noor Dubai Foundation” and “Suqia”. UAE”, “ Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation ”, “ Mohammed bin Rashid College of Government ”, “Dubai Cares”, and “Mohammed bin Rashid Center for Cultural Communication”, and launched many awards: “Arab Journalism Award”, “ Mohammed bin Rashid Award for Supporters of the Arts, and the Arab Award for Social Media.

Upon his return to Dubai, he assumed the position of President of the “ Dubai Police ” and “Public Security”, which was the first official position he held, and on January 4, 1995, he was appointed Crown Prince of the Emirate of Dubai, and he announced the establishment of the “Dubai Shopping Festival” in 1995. .

Since then, Dubai's projects under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid have not stopped, including the Burj Al Arab Hotel, the Palm Island, the largest expansion of Emirates Airlines , the expansion of Sheikh Rashid Airport, and the Jebel Ali Free Zone. .

He founded “Dubai Internet City” in 1999, and “Dubai Media City” in 2000. He also launched the “Dubai e-Government” project in 1995, making it one of the first projects in the region.

In 1966, he joined Bell Language School in Cambridge, and then he joined Mons Officers’ School, located in Aldershot, United Kingdom.
