He has been a visiting professor of finance at the University of Sharjah since September 2021.

He holds membership from the Institute of Management Accountants in Australia, Chartered Accountant membership from Britain, Certified Public Accountant from the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions, and Financial Advisors membership from the Institute of Financial Advisors in the United States.

He is also a financial advisor, a member of the Regional Centre for Sustainable Finance (RCSF) since January 2021, the Accounting and Auditing Association, a member of the Board of Directors of the Accounting and Auditing Organization of the Gulf Cooperation Council , a member of the Advisory Group of the International Federation of Accountants in the United States, a member of the Advisory Board of the College of Business Administration at the United Arab Emirates University, and a member of the Islamic Financial Services Board in Malaysia.

He held a number of positions at the Securities and Commodities Authority , including: Chief Executive Officer between December 2017 and May 2021, Acting Chief Executive Officer between 2015 and 2017, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Legal Affairs and Issuance between 2014 and 2015, Studies and Research Advisor, Director of the Research and Awareness Department, and Director of the Dubai Branch between 2008 and 2013. He also held the position of Vice President of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) between 2018 and 2021, and Chairman of the Emerging Markets Committee in the same organization between 2018 and 2021.

He also held the position of Chairman of the Advisory Board for Graduate Business Programs at the University of Sharjah during 2021, Director of Human Resources Department at the same university between 2007 and 2008, Senior Manager of International Business at Amlak Finance Company during 2007, Director of the Control and Follow-up Department at Dubai Islamic Bank between 2005 and 2007, Manager of the same bank’s branch between 1999 and 2005, Head of the Accounting Department at the UAE Armed Forces between 1990 and 1998, Manager of the Emirates Transport Company branch during 1997, and Auditor at the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates between 1989 and 1990.

He has over 25 years of practical experience in financial legislation, accounting, banking, finance and investment from several financial institutions in the UAE, USA, UK and Malaysia.

He authored the book “Measuring the Quality of Perceived Banking Service in Dubai Islamic Bank” in 2000.

He holds a PhD in Banking and Finance in 2006 from Durham University in the United Kingdom, a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance in 2004 from the same university, a Master’s degree in Business Administration in 2000 from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport , and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1989 from the United Arab Emirates University .
